Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods!
Sunday, November 23, 2-4pm

Although it didn’t “officially” become Theobroma cacao – food of the gods – until the 18th century, the cacao tree has been at the center of Mesoamerican mythology for thousands of years and commoners and kings have been eating and drinking chocolate since at least 1500 BC. From the Aztec to the Olmec, chocolate has played an essential role in relations with the spiritual world, but it was also an important commodity bestowing status and wealth. Today it remains one of the world’s favorite curatives, stimulants and even aphrodisiacs. Please join us for free trade chocolate sampling as well as some chocolate treats incorporating other flavors of the Southwest like mesquite and chiles. Copies of Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods from the University of Arizona Press will be available for sale along with a variety of artisanal chocolates! free
